Okay, so I didn't post for months (FAIL) but I'm finally back, and I hope I do a better job this year.
Now, let me ask you a question: Do you watch vines? That seems REALLY out of the subject, and it is, but I'm talking about a SPECIFIC vine, it goes like this:
Person No. 1: So that's it guys, don't give up, follow your dreams!
Person No. 2: Are our dreams gonna follow us back?
Person No. 1: Uh, no, it's just an expression.
Person No. 2: *laughs* Yeah right, what a joke!
Do you get my point?
*sigh* Okay, probably not, but that's why I'm hear to explain it to you!
So, basically, Person No. 1 was right, even when our dreams don't follow us back (as in, you know, work out for us) we have to keep going, who knows, maybe you need to strike out in a different direction.
So how does this fit in with writing? Well, let's say you have just finished a book, and you REALLY want to publish it, you send it to a publisher and then, some time later (not too soon, mind you) you get something back from them, but wait. Somethings wrong, WHY IS THE PACKAGE SO THICK!!?!? You tentatively open it, and your manuscript is lying there, obviously rejected.
You tried to fulfill your dreams by getting up the courage to publish it, and it didn't work out, no happy, TV worthy beginning to your writing life, and you know what?
That's okay.
You have 3 choices now:
1) Try sending it to a different publisher.
2) Re-read your story and try fixing it.
3) Get down under your bed and stay there sulking for all eternity.
Obviously, options 1 and 2 seem more sensible (I recommend option 2) and option 3 just doesn't make sense.
If this ever happens to you, you would probably be feeling an option 3 vibe, and if you do, well, I guess you could cry for a little while, but get over it! Don't miss out on victories while crying over failures!
That's it for today guys, and remember DON'T GIVE UP, FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS!

something that would
fit right in
into my story

look at
the cat in the hat books
there you can find
lots of words!
they don't exist

squiggly words!
squishy, wiggly, giggly words!
here is your chance, you flex you fingers
ready to type that original word
take a deep breath
how much money do you get
if you invent an original word?
maybe a million dollars
hey
you could be a word creator!
wait
is there such a job
as a word creator?
snap out of it,
just type your word!
here goes something
here goes fame
better think of the way I should sign my name
ready,
steady,
geady,
wait, what?
geady isn't a word
I could invent it though!
and get 2 million dollars!
okay okay
get the 1st one typed
and-
you type it
yes!
i typed it
my original word!
wait what?
horror of horrors
what
is
that!?
that ugly thing
sitting under my word?
no!

it's my new word
and its been rejected

there goes my original word
the laptop
won't even let me explain!
well
there goes my original word
i won't be famous
i won't be rich
i won't be signing autographs
any time near
no 2 million dollars
not even 1 million
i don't get anything
for my original word
my wiggly

The Footprint
Hi guys! Lately I've been experimenting with first person viewpoint, this is the viewpoint I use most in my stories, you can 'see' what the person is thinking.
I came up with this true life story that took place last year, 1st person viewpoint provides a special, humorous edge to it. Enjoy!
I sat on the round
swing that hung from a huge thick tree, Narnia in hand, reading silently as
branches covered in greens swayed above me.
My cousin Zif was in
front of me, stick in hand as he scavenged the garden, looking for anything
alive. Typical boy behavior.
“Hey, what’s that?”
He pointed at an imprint of a medium sized flip-flop.
I muttered something
about my slipper as I turned the page, not wanting to destroy the peace.
Zif grabbed my shoe
from my foot, pulling me off balance as he did so, making me fall.
“What did you do that
for?” I yelled from my new location, which was under a menacing looking cactus.
He held up my
slipper, “See, the prints don’t match! Someone trespassed here!”
I got up, interested,
“Let’s check the other slippers.”
Zif ran off while I
grabbed my notepad and pen and drew an intricate copy of the print, now this
vacation is getting interesting. I thought.
He came back with a
various collection of flip flops, and one by one we tried to make a match, but
nothing worked.
We moved on to
sandals, work shoes, tennis shoes, every single piece of footwear in the house.
Nothing.
Soon, Zif and I were
so engrossed with this mystery that he forgot his stick, and I forgot my Narnia.
“What about that
woman that visited for tea?” I asked, jotting down notes.
“No, she wore high
heels, and tea was INSIDE the house, not in the garden.”
I realized he was
right, and wrote down the new info.
Zif found a number of
the same footprints around the garden, and we picked the clearest one to investigate.
By now my notepad was
getting full.
We worked on this for
the next 3 hours, then the day after we resumed after breakfast.
There were more.
Yes, the intruder had
gone pitter-patter all around the garden, and a little scrutinizing revealed
that they were a few hours old.
“We’ll catch this guy
in the act tomorrow, early in the morning.” I told Zif.
The next day, we went
out, tailed by the family’s dog, BB, the small black shadow rummaged around as
we talked by the cactus.
“Okay, we have one
footprint left clear, I’m planning to put a cover over it, to keep it safe.” I
told him.
Turning around, we
realized that the footprint was gone, and that BB had sand on his paws.
We stood frozen,
dumbfounded.
Then we shrugged and
I got my Narnia, he got his stick.

Readers Become....... What?
This is a pretty easy question, fill in the blank:
Listeners become talkers, Readers become _________.
You probably thought 'Writers!', in that case, you are...... both right and wrong.
????
What I mean is, in my case, that's true, I read a lot, then I became a writer, but not for everyone.
Most people in the world can read, but if that statement above was always true, everyone would be writers!
But as you can see, people are firefighters, police, etc, etc, etc.
Reading doesn't make you a writer, just like going to a barn doesn't make you a cow.
It's a person's choice to be a writer, it's also a very difficult choice.
For example, writers are the only people prone to these minor (but dangerous) diseases:
Writers Block
My-hand-hurts-itism
Why-won't-my-brain-work-syndrome
And much much MUCH more.
But still, none of those things can stop writers, writing is like a wave in a football match, or like dominoes, once you start it, you can't stop.

Inspiration
This is true for pretty much every writer, writers grab inspiration from ALL around them, from what they see, hear, think, or feel (Still thinking about taste, lol)
Take Jaqueline Wilson, a great writer, she found inspiration for her story 'The Illustrated Mum' while driking coffee with her daughter! She was sitting in a coffee shop, when she saw outside the glass front, people that would look great in print! A tattooed mum and two young girls prancing around her. Her daughter looked at her, "Hey," she said, "Why not write about them?" Then the story was born.
Writers, we can look around and grab a story from just about ANYWHERE! Look around right where you are, and whatever you see, think hard about it.
You might just get a story.
