Okay, so I didn't post for months (FAIL) but I'm finally back, and I hope I do a better job this year.
Now, let me ask you a question: Do you watch vines? That seems REALLY out of the subject, and it is, but I'm talking about a SPECIFIC vine, it goes like this:
Person No. 1: So that's it guys, don't give up, follow your dreams!
Person No. 2: Are our dreams gonna follow us back?
Person No. 1: Uh, no, it's just an expression.
Person No. 2: *laughs* Yeah right, what a joke!
Do you get my point?
*sigh* Okay, probably not, but that's why I'm hear to explain it to you!
So, basically, Person No. 1 was right, even when our dreams don't follow us back (as in, you know, work out for us) we have to keep going, who knows, maybe you need to strike out in a different direction.
So how does this fit in with writing? Well, let's say you have just finished a book, and you REALLY want to publish it, you send it to a publisher and then, some time later (not too soon, mind you) you get something back from them, but wait. Somethings wrong, WHY IS THE PACKAGE SO THICK!!?!? You tentatively open it, and your manuscript is lying there, obviously rejected.
You tried to fulfill your dreams by getting up the courage to publish it, and it didn't work out, no happy, TV worthy beginning to your writing life, and you know what?
That's okay.
You have 3 choices now:
1) Try sending it to a different publisher.
2) Re-read your story and try fixing it.
3) Get down under your bed and stay there sulking for all eternity.
Obviously, options 1 and 2 seem more sensible (I recommend option 2) and option 3 just doesn't make sense.
If this ever happens to you, you would probably be feeling an option 3 vibe, and if you do, well, I guess you could cry for a little while, but get over it! Don't miss out on victories while crying over failures!
That's it for today guys, and remember DON'T GIVE UP, FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS!
Storyteller4ever out!
